Devlog #3: Mechanics Progress

Hi everyone! After a refreshing holiday break, we're back with some updates on our project. In this update, we’ve been working on key functionalities for both players, including the grappling hook and hammer, along with various sprites and features.

Map, Sprites and Camera

We have found sprites for our main players and our maps. We have started assembling the map and added each character's own specific animations. Additionally, a camera has been added to follow each player. We began synchronizing the animations across both screens, but the synchronization is still not perfect and requires further adjustments for improvement. Additionally, each player has its own camera so they can interact and see whatever they want to.

Hook

We've implemented part of the hook tool for one of our characters. The player can launch a chain that connects to specific blocks using either a left or right mouse click, allowing them to be pulled to that location. This is the first version, so we expect to adjust many of its parameters, such as pull speed and maximum reach, in the future.

Hammer

We've added part of the hammer tool from our other player. The player is able to smash particular blocks with the letter J, allowing new routes to be open.

What's next

In the coming days, we expect to finish and refine the main mechanics for both characters, as well as implement their interactions (one player should be able to hook the other, and the second player should be able to hammer the first to launch them off). Additionally, we aim to design some engaging levels to enhance player interaction with the available tools. See you in the next devlog!
